At EnviroAbility, our Monthly Cooking Group is about much more than preparing a meal. It's a fun, friendly opportunity for people to build the practical skills and confidence they need for greater independence, while enjoying good company and creating delicious, wholesome food together.
Each month, participants work as a team to plan, prepare and cook a nutritious meal using fresh ingredients. Much of the food we use is grown by EnviroAbility participants on our organic growing plot at Model Farm, helping to connect growing, cooking and healthy eating in a practical and enjoyable way.
The group provides an opportunity to learn more about where our food comes from and the benefits of choosing fresh, healthy ingredients. Along the way, participants develop everyday independent living skills such as following recipes, measuring ingredients, using kitchen equipment safely, budgeting, food hygiene and cleaning up after themselves.
Whether someone is learning to chop vegetables for the first time or becoming confident enough to cook a meal with minimal support, everyone is encouraged to progress at their own pace. The focus is on achievement, choice, healthy eating and enjoying the experience together.
